“Happiness is not something readymade. It comes from your own actions.” Dalai Lama
The 20th March is International Day of Happiness. It is a day set aside to divert the world’s attention to just ‘being happy’.
In an attempt to spread ‘happiness’ we thought ‘what better way to commemorate this day than to spend it with the elderly community?’ They caught our attention because in most cases senior citizens are forlorn and spend days on end alone and with nothing to do.
We found an old age home called ‘Gabane House of Hope’ where the care takers visit the elderly at their homes to make sure that they are well and are generally in good spirits.
Our request to commemorate this day with Gabane House of Hope was well received and on the 17th March Choppies staff travelled through the hail storm to Gabane where 20 elderly citizens were waiting for us. We sang songs, laughed, danced and did all we could to make sure that that day was one they would remember for a long time. We brought them a cake, fruits, juice, yogurt, face clothes, bars of soap and Choppies merchandise.
